SXSW was a huge success!!!

I had such an amazing first experience with SXSW.  The people in Austin were extremely friendly and engaging.  The organizations involved in putting together this special showcase did a great job of providing us with amazing accommodations and a unique performance venue.  We were able to watch some amazing acts at the Global Fest Showcase on Friday night including my brother from another mother Vox Sambou, Tribu Baharu from Colombia, DakhaBrakha from the Ukraine, and Liniker e os Caramellos from Brazil.  On Saturday, we witnessed the magic of Austins local music scene clashing with talent from Rhode Island in an all day mash up of cool music from all genres.  Some of my favorites were Rudy De Anda from Long Beach Cali, Yonatan Gat from NYC, Austins own Jackie Venson, Hard Proof, Mobley, and Leti Garza.  RI definitely represented and left a deep footprint in Austin this year.  Big shout out to all of the RI representatives who made the experience so much more meaningful to me.  I had a blast on stage and loved shaking hands and giving sweaty hugs as I greeted a line full of smiling faces who patiently waited my free cds.  Thank you Austin.  I will be back!!!!

Advanced Listening Party: New EP with J.DePina "The Human Factor"

Last weekend, I was dealing with the insecurities of my last few days in my 30's, inspiration struck me.  I realized I had been neglecting music.  Fortunately, my brother from another mother and favorite producer, J.DePina was overcome with a simultaneous jolt of progressive urgency.  On Friday he sent me one beat, which I loved and immediately wrote to.  This beat ultimately became the title track to this 7 song EP "The Human Factor". On Saturday morning, I woke up to 4 more beats from Mr. Depina and I immediately put the pen to work.  I met up with J.DePina to brag about the 3 completed songs I wrote within the span of 24 hours.  He countered by telling me that all 7 beats were produced on Friday night.  I accepted the challenge and wrote while he watched the Celtics game in his living room. By midnight, we had 6 completed songs.  I left and promised him that I will not take long to complete the 7th song.  I pulled into my driveway, and before I left the car I wrote the 7th and final song of this EP, "The Assignment".  The next day, we met up with Vertygo at Beatbox Studio and recorded all 7 songs in one night.  I am proud to say that this project was literally made in one weekend.  I am proud of our accomplishment, not just because of the time in which we completed it, but more so because the music is good... it's really good.  I feel like I was able to channel a much younger version of me in this project. I played around with different flows, I experimented with singing, which is outside of my comfort zone, and for the first time in a long time I just had fun with my friends and created some dope hip hop. "The Human Factor" is ready.  We plan to release it digitally for free and we also plan on duplicating hard copies on cassette tape and 12' vinyl if we can raise the cash for it.  I just turned 40 years old but this project makes me feel like a kid again.  Expect much more this year!!!
